WORKS PERIOD
2024 – Ongoing
The seismic improvement project at the San Giovanni Battista Hospital in Foligno is aimed at ensuring a safe, resilient and fully operational healthcare facility even following high-intensity seismic events.
The project, awarded to the Temporary Joint Venture formed by Rosa Edilizia and Edilsystem, involves the entire hospital complex and adopts a highly technological design strategy capable of combining maximum structural effectiveness, limited invasiveness and continuity of healthcare services throughout the execution of the works.
Edilsystem is responsible for the construction of the seismic base isolation system and foundation strengthening works, which represent a key element of the seismic improvement strategy for the complex.
The adopted solution provides a significant increase in seismic safety in compliance with the Italian Technical Standards for Construction (NTC 2018). The project includes the implementation of seismic base isolation through the installation of elastomeric seismic isolators and multidirectional sliding bearings below the isolation plane, with the aim of drastically reducing the accelerations transmitted to the superstructure. This technology makes it possible to significantly reduce seismic stresses on the existing structures, limiting both structural and non-structural damage and ensuring that the building remains fully operational even after severe seismic events.
At the same time, Edilsystem is carrying out foundation strengthening works using micropiles, required to adapt the foundation system to the new static and dynamic conditions introduced by the seismic isolation system. The works are being performed in confined spaces and under complex operating conditions typical of strategic facilities that must remain in service, with rigorous planning of each construction phase in order to ensure that the hospital remains fully operational throughout the entire duration of the works.
